Pioneer Day

I was so glad to be able to be a part of another Pioneer Day—the 16th year of the festival. Unfortunately, in a rare climatic happening, it rained lightly throughout the day yesterday, which kept the usual crowds away.

I can’t remember the last time it rained on Pioneer Day. Heat? Yes. Some wind? Sure. But rain? That doesn’t usually happen.

Still, it was great to reunite with folks and also to meet new people. And because dear old “Clementine” broke down after the 10 am tour, consequently leaving me with no tour guide responsibilities for the rest of the day, I ended up being able to hop on a Blue Point Mine tour and be a tourist for a change.

Timbuctoo tomorrow

I’m looking forward to Pioneer Day tomorrow! I know I’ll be reuniting with people I haven’t seen since last year, and also meeting other folks for the first time.

Check out this article, but ignore the second sentence, which was apparently written by an overworked “Territorial Dispatch” employee.

Tomorrow, I hope to see you in Timbuctoo.

back to Timbuctoo

For the second year in a row, I’ll be giving tours of the Timbuctoo town site. I’m so thrilled about this that I’m going to end this sentence with an exclamation point!

And, like last year, E Clampus Vitus Chapter 10 out of Nevada City will be donating their efforts and their rig “Clementine” to make that happen.

Clementine was a bit cantankerous last year, and decided to break down before the last tour started. But Clamper and driver Nick Martin tells me, “That’s all fixed now. She’s running really good.”

So, three cheers (and three tours?) for Clementine this year!

more destruction

The recent storms that battered California didn’t spare the old Wells Fargo building at Timbuctoo. Resident Erika Jordan said, “It looks like the old Wells Fargo building was damaged a bit more. There are quite a few of the roof pieces missing and it looks like the back end may have caved a little bit.”

Very few images have been taken from this angle, which shows a side view of the fallen building.
